Phangan backpacker is about 110 m from the sand, and the party site is around 150 m away, so the lively part of the island is close at hand. The party draws crowds to the beach, and the streets around it stay busy late into the night. Ko Pha-ngan has no bridge to the mainland or to Ko Samui, so the final stretch of the journey is by boat.
