A good day could start at the Chatuchak Weekend Market on a weekend morning, then move on to the Museum of Contemporary Art, and finish with the temples of the old city in the afternoon. Suvarnabhumi Airport is 25.5 km away for longer journeys, and the skytrain is the easiest way to reach the market.
