Neil niwas

Wat Phra Chetuphon, the temple with the large reclining Buddha, is 1.2 km off, and The Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha lie across the river, about 1.5 km away, within the old city. Several ferry piers, including Wat Arun Pier, are nearby, and crossing the river by ferry is the usual way to reach the old city.

Khaosan Road, the backpacker street of Banglamphu, is 2.6 km away on the other side of the river. For a day out, combine Wat Arun and the old city with a walk through the canal-side streets of Bangkok Yai. The Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip across town for weekend shoppers. Both the river and the canals shape the neighbourhood, and a walk between them is one of the simplest ways to spend an afternoon.
