Bangla Road, the street of bars and clubs that makes up much of the town's nightlife, is 1.1 km away, and the Jungceylon Shopping Center, a large mall with shops and restaurants, is 1.2 km away. Kata Beach and Karon Beach lie further along the coast from Patong, and Wat Chalong is the best-known temple on the island, while the Big Buddha stands on a hill with wide views over the island. A car or taxi is the easiest way to reach the beaches further along the coast.

In the evening you can walk to the Patong night market and Bangla Road after dinner, then return to the beach in the morning for a walk along the sand. Boat trips to nearby islands depend on the sea, which is rougher in the monsoon months from May to October, so plan day trips around the weather.
