The Monkey School, 4 km out, is where macaques are trained to pick coconuts. Walking between these sights takes you through the everyday life of the town, from the market stalls to the shrine-temples and the old railway line.

A day could start at the locomotive monuments by the railway, continue to the night market in the evening, and include a trip to the national museum or the Monkey School outside town. Boats to Ko Tao leave from Pathiu pier, outside town, so the hotel is a practical place to sleep before a crossing.
