The street-food stalls and local shops along the main roads give the neighbourhood a distinctly residential character.

Huai Khwang MRT Station is 800 m away and links the area with the rest of the city. The Chatuchak Weekend Market, 4.3 km away, is one of Bangkok's best-known markets, and Siam Paragon, a large shopping centre, is 5.2 km away. The Grand Palace, 9.5 km away in the old city, sits next to Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, and Wat Arun, on the Chao Phraya river, is in the same area.

For a full day, start at the Chatuchak Weekend Market in the morning and return to Ratchada in the evening for the night markets along Ratchadaphisek Road. Siam Niramit, a theatrical Thai cultural show, is close by, and the metro makes the rest of the city easy to reach from here. Don Mueang International Airport is 16.1 km away for those arriving or leaving by air.
