Yaowarat is Bangkok's Chinatown, a dense district of narrow lanes, shophouses and market stalls. The apartment is on Phlap Phla Chai Road, in the Wat Thepsirin area, inside this part of the district. Its streets are lined with shrines, Chinese temples and traditional shops, and the district is busiest in the evening.

Wat Mangkon Kamalawat is 50 m away and Wat Mangkon MRT Station is 150 m away, which keeps the metro close for trips across the city. Nearby are Wat Khanikaphon and Leng Buai Ia Shrine, both within a few hundred metres. Hua Lamphong Pier, a ferry pier near Yaowarat Road, is 700 m away, and Yaowarat Road, the main street of the district, is lined with street-food stalls.

A day could begin at Wat Mangkon Kamalawat and continue on foot along Yaowarat Road, stopping at the food stalls and, in the evening, the night market. Further afield, the Grand Palace is 2.2 km away, in the old city, and Wat Arun, on the bank of the Chao Phraya, is within the same day of temple visits. Chatuchak Weekend Market is 7.5 km away for a larger market outing, with the lanes of Yaowarat as the natural starting point for the day.
