Mae Haad is the main ferry village on Ko Tao, a small island in the Gulf of Thailand known for diving and for its quiet bays. The village is a compact stretch of coast with a pier, a beach, dive schools and small guesthouses, and the pace stays slow with the sea never far away. The island's dive schools and boats give the village much of its character.
The ferry pier is 500 m from Koh Tao Royal Resort, and Haad Ao Mae beach is 350 m away, so both the sea and the boats are close. Sai Nuan Beach is about 1 km away, and Nangyuan Island lies 4.7 km offshore with a well-known viewpoint.
