Indie Hostel Koh Tao

Indie Hostel Koh Tao offers mixed dormitory beds, each for one guest, and private rooms with either a single bed or a double bed, for one or two guests. Air conditioning is fitted in every room, and both private rooms have a courtyard view.

The private rooms each have a private bathroom, and both have a flat-screen TV. Dormitory rooms share bathrooms, and the double room has a bathtub. Every room has a shower and toiletries.

The hostel has a 24-hour front desk, a shared lounge and TV area, a library, lockers, luggage storage and safety deposit boxes, along with a concierge and laundry service. Massage is offered, and languages spoken include English, Thai, French, Spanish and Burmese.

For eating and drinking there are a restaurant, a bar, a coffee shop and room service, with a kitchen on site and continental breakfast available. Room service is available for guests who prefer to eat in their rooms, and the hostel has a library for quiet time.

Activities include diving, snorkelling, canoeing, fishing and boating, and tours can be arranged. Free parking is available on site, and Wi-Fi is also available in the public areas.

Sairee Beach is the main stretch of sand on Ko Tao, the small island in the Gulf of Thailand known for its diving. The strip behind the sand is lined with dive schools, beach bars and small cafés, so the area is lively in the evenings, and the hostel is about 120 m from the beach, close to all of it.

Other bays lie further along the coast, such as Mango Bay and Jansom Bay, both about 2.5 km away. The Top of the rock viewpoint is a hilltop lookout with wide views over the bays, 1.4 km from the hostel, and Nangyuan Island, 3 km away, is a small island reached by boat and popular for snorkelling. Reaching Ko Tao means a boat: Samui Airport is 66.4 km away on Koh Samui, so the last leg of the journey is by sea.

A day here can begin on the sand at Sairee, continue with a dive or a snorkelling trip, and finish at the hilltop viewpoint in the afternoon. Boat trips to the islands nearby are a common day out from Ko Tao, and boating is one of the activities the hostel offers. In the evening, the beach bars along the strip are a short walk back from the hostel.
