Ao Nam Mao is a small coastal village on the Krabi mainland, and the beach faces a bay backed by the limestone cliffs that shape this part of the coast. It is a more low-key setting than the busier beach town of Ao Nang, and the village has a quieter feel in the evenings.
Fossil Shell Beach, close by, has fossilised shells set into the rock, and Ao Nam Mao pier, 1.7 km away, is a pier for boat trips along the coast. Railay Beach, 4.5 km away, can only be reached by boat, and its limestone cliffs are one of the best-known sights of the region. Ao Nang Beach, 5.6 km away, is the busier beach town of the coast, with a long stretch of sand and a promenade lined with its own shops and cafés.
For a day out, Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), 12.5 km away, sits on a hill reached by a long stairway. A boat trip to the Hong Islands makes a full day out from this coast.
