The old city's sights are close by. Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is 1 km away and the Grand Palace 1.2 km, both inside the old royal district. Wat Arun, the riverside temple with a tall central prang, lies across the Chao Phraya river, and Jim Thompson House, a teak house and museum, is further on.

Getting around on foot is easy for the temples and the Khaosan area, while the Sam Yot MRT station, 1.6 km away, serves the metro for trips further afield. Don Mueang International Airport is 20.7 km away. For a full day, combine the morning temples with a walk along Khaosan Road in the evening and a visit to the Khao San Market nearby, where the evening crowds make the street easy to enjoy.
