Karon is a beach area on the west coast of Phuket, facing the Andaman Sea. Da Mario Hotel and Restaurant is on Patak Road, 250 m from Karon Beach, a long stretch of sand. The area is calmer than Patong, the island's busiest beach town, which has the nightlife of Bangla Road.

Within 300 m of the hotel are a convenience store, a clinic, an ATM and the Karon Night Market, which fills with food stalls in the evening. Wat Suwan Khirikhet, a Buddhist temple, is about 350 m away. Kata Beach, the next bay to the south, is also sandy. Big Buddha Phuket, a large white statue on a hilltop, is 3.1 km away, and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), one of the island's best-known Buddhist temples, is 4.5 km away.

A full day could combine Big Buddha and Wat Chalong with an afternoon on Kata Beach, and the evening could end at the Karon Night Market. For a different outing, Phuket FantaSea is a cultural theme park with shows, and Jungceylon Shopping Center in Patong is a short distance from the beach. Getting around the island is by taxi or hired car, as the beaches are spread along the coast.
