Much of the town's life runs along the beach road, where the sand and the evening crowds are closest to each other.

Patong Beach is 800 m away, and Bangla Road, the street known for its bars and nightclubs, is 1.5 km away. Kalim Beach is another stretch of sand in the area, and the Banzaan Fresh Market is a local market for fresh food and produce. Further afield, Chaithararam Temple, known as Wat Chalong, is one of Phuket's most important temples, and Big Buddha Phuket is 8.6 km away. Phuket International Airport is 23 km away, reached by road.

A day could start on Patong Beach, continue with a visit to the Big Buddha in the afternoon, and end on Bangla Road after dark. Patong Boxing Stadium is close by, where Muay Thai bouts take place, so the evening can include a fight as well, after a day on the beach.
