Off the busy main road the streets turn quieter, with apartment blocks and small local shops, so the area feels more like a neighbourhood than a tourist strip. Street-food stalls and small massage shops are common along the lanes. The Asok BTS station is 450 m away, and the Sukhumvit MRT station is also nearby. Trains serve the Sukhumvit corridor, so the city centre can be reached without a car.

Siam Paragon, a large shopping centre, is 2.7 km away and is a good stop for an afternoon in the city. Jim Thompson House, a museum set in a traditional Thai house, is also nearby. Chatuchak Weekend Market, one of the largest weekend markets in Bangkok, lies further out in the north of the city, so it is best planned as a separate trip.

A day in the old city could start at the Grand Palace, 7.3 km away, with Wat Arun on the river nearby. Back on Sukhumvit, the BTS and MRT stations offer a way to move around the central districts without a car, which suits visitors who prefer trains to road traffic. Don Mueang International Airport is 20.5 km away and Suvarnabhumi Airport is 21.4 km away, and a taxi can be used from either.
