Its villages and small bays give the island a different feel from the resort areas of Phuket.

Ao Pun Te village is 500 m from the property, and Laem Had Beach is 1.2 km away, with the Laem Had viewpoint 2.7 km further on. Chong Lard Pier, one of the island's ferry terminals, is 2.6 km away. Secret Beach lies farther along the coast, and the Palm Beach Club is further still, so the beaches of the island are spread along its shore rather than gathered in one place.

Phuket's best-known sights include Patong Beach, Big Buddha and Chaithararam Temple (Wat Chalong), so a day trip to the main island can be combined with time in the villages and bays of Koh Yao Yai. Phuket FantaSea, a theme park with a cultural show, lies 35.4 km away, and Freedom Beach and Nai Harn Beach are also on Phuket.
