For a day out, the Grand Palace and the temples around it are 8 km away, a longer ride by taxi, and Wat Arun, the temple on the Chao Phraya riverbank, is a short distance from the Grand Palace. The Chatuchak Weekend Market is a large weekend market with thousands of stalls, a good choice for a Saturday or Sunday morning, and a taxi or the BTS will take you back to the hotel afterwards.
