It is a small mainland town that works as a base for trips to the beaches and islands of the province, with a relaxed everyday feel: streets of shophouses, clinics and temples, and an easy pace in the evenings. Guests who stay here are in town, and the boats for the islands leave from the piers rather than from a beach.

Several places of interest lie close by. The Mangrove Boardwalk, 1.7 km away, is a walkway through mangrove forest, and the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea), 4.8 km away, sits on a hill reached by a long staircase. The Krabi Weekend Night Market, 2.6 km away, comes alive on weekends with food stalls and local goods. Krabi International Airport is 8.4 km away, and Ao Nang Beach, 10.9 km away, is the main beach area reached from town.

A good day can start with the mangrove walkway in the morning, continue with the temple on the hill and end at the night market in the evening. For the islands, boats leave from the piers, and Railay, reached only by longtail boat, is a peninsula of limestone cliffs. Boat trips to the islands can be disrupted when the sea is rough, which is more common in the rainy months.
