Phuket International Airport is 24.8 km away, and Phuket is joined to the mainland by a bridge, so the trip from the airport is by road. Once you are in Patong, the sandy coves of Kata Beach and Karon Beach are a short drive along the coast, and a day trip can take in the temple and the Big Buddha. Kalim Beach, another sandy stretch nearby, offers a quieter alternative to the centre of Patong.
