Several embassies are on the nearby streets, including the Embassy of the United States, so the area is calm in the evenings compared with the main road. The Chatuchak Weekend Market is a longer trip across town and is open mainly at weekends, so it suits a day trip rather than a quick visit.

A day could begin at Jim Thompson House, a teak house museum filled with Thai art and antiques, before a trip to The Grand Palace, 6.6 km away, where the Temple of the Emerald Buddha sits within the royal complex. Wat Arun, a riverside temple on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya river, is a good companion to that visit, and the whole route suits a full day out.
