Boat trips from the island reach Hong Island, 13.4 km away, a limestone island with a sheltered lagoon, and James Bond Island in Phang Nga Bay.

A good day could start on Loh Pared Beach and continue by boat to Hong Island or James Bond Island, both reached from the water. The island has no airport of its own: for flights, Phuket International Airport is 33.7 km away on Phuket island, across the water, so the last stage of the journey is by boat. Back on Koh Yao Yai, the afternoon can be spent in the hotel's garden or library, with the bays of the village of Ao Tha Kae a short walk away.
