Siam Paragon, a large shopping mall near Siam Square, is 2.4 km away, and Chatuchak Weekend Market, a huge weekend market, is 6.5 km away. The Jim Thompson House, a traditional teak house once home to the American silk entrepreneur Jim Thompson, is also worth a visit. Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports are 19.8 km and 21.7 km away.

A good day could start at the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, the temple on the west bank of the Chao Phraya, and end at Asiatique the Riverfront, a riverside shopping and dining complex. Khaosan Road, the busy backpacker street, is also in the old city, so it fits easily into the same day.
