Wat Arun, on the Thonburi bank of the river, is 5.2 km away, and the Grand Palace, home to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, is 5.4 km away. Khaosan Road, the well-known backpacker street, is in the old city.

A day out could take in Wat Arun and the Grand Palace, then the Jim Thompson House, a museum of Thai silk and art, before an evening at Asiatique by the river. For a weekend morning, the Chatuchak Weekend Market, 9.2 km away, is one of the largest markets in Bangkok.
