A good day could start at the Chatuchak Weekend Market, which is open on Saturdays and Sundays, and continue to Jim Thompson House or Siam Paragon in the afternoon. The Grand Palace, 10.4 km away, and Wat Arun on the Chao Phraya river make a full day out in the old city, and the two areas are best covered on separate half-days, with the market suited to a morning start and the old city to the rest of the day.
