The town's food scene is one of its draws, with street food stalls and trendy cafés side by side, and Hokkien noodles are a local speciality worth trying.

Phuket Old Town begins 800 m away, and Thalang Road, the town's main street, runs through it with shops, cafés and galleries. The Peranakan Museum is 1000 m away, and the Phuket City Municipality Public Fresh Market and the Plein Poa Night Market are close by too. Chaithararam Temple, better known as Wat Chalong, is one of the island's best-known Buddhist temples and lies 7.1 km away. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is 26.1 km away, and the Phuket Town local bus station is 1.5 km off.

A day out can start with a walk through the old quarter, then continue to Wat Chalong and the Big Buddha, which lie further from the town. Karon, Kata and Patong beaches are a longer trip away, and the Sino-Portuguese streets of the old town are a good place to start or end the day.
